COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMINATIONS
OUR EYE EXAMINATIONS
As an independent practice, we are committed to providing practical and personal eye care to our community here in Cheltenham.
If detected early, most eye conditions can be treated successfully. At Norville Independent Eyecare, we utilise the best technology available to use to assist us in delivering the highest levels of personalised eyecare. Part of that is offering NHS and private eye examinations personalised for you.
All of our examinations run a set of fundamental tests using the latest technology to check up on your vision and overall eye health.
We also offer additional tests, which our optometrists will recommend to you if necessary. Our private eye examinations include Optomap scanning, (which is also available to NHS patients at an additional fee).

YOUR EYE HEALTH
Your eye health can be affected by everything from your diet to the amount of time you spend in the sun, so it can be difficult for you to know what you need to do for your eyes and when.
We are committed to providing our patients with exceptional eye care by offering specialist advice and assistance based specifically on your eye health.
Whether you are having an eye examination or picking a new pair of glasses every member of our team will take the time to consider your unique case and make their recommendations with you in mind.

WHAT IS OPTOMAP AND WHY DO WE INCLUDE THIS IN OUR EYE EXAMS?
Using the best technology available is one of the ways we provide quality eye care.
With traditional retinal imaging only 15% of the retina is captured in a single image. Optomap is the only true, clinically validated, ultra-widefield retinal image that can capture 82% of the retina.
The unique Optomap ultra-widefield view helps our Optometrists detect early signs of retinal disease more effectively and efficiently than with traditional eye exams because so much more of the retina is visible.
COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMINATIONS INCLUDE AN OCT SCAN
An OCT scan (Optical Coherence Tomography scan), is a medical imaging technique that uses light to generate a detailed 3D view through structures within the eye. Our OCT is a Heidelberg Spectralis, which is the machine used in a hospital setting for monitoring glaucoma, macula and retinal conditions.
It allows our Optometrists to see beyond within the layers of your retina and is a fast, completely painless imaging technique. Just like a CT scan allows doctors to see a 3D view of the inside of your body, an OCT allows our Optometrists to examine every layer of your eyes, in very fine detail. Which then, in turn, assists in diagnosing a multitude of eye conditions at the earliest possible stage.
OCT is especially useful for monitoring all stages of age related macular degeneration/other macular conditions, detecting glaucoma in it’s earliest stages and for monitoring suspicious lumps and bumps at the back of the eye.
We recommend you consider having an OCT if you have a family history of glaucoma or if you have been found to have early stages of any macular conditions. If you are not sure our experienced Optometrists will be able to advise and make recommendations based on your findings. Please ask our friendly team for more information.

EMERGENCY EYECARE
If you have noticed a sudden change to your vision, redness, excessive watering, flashes or floaters or any other symptom that concerns you, we offer emergency eyecare appointments that differ from a regular full eye examination.
Our qualified optometrists are experienced in dealing with minor eye emergencies. If appropriate, we can refer you on to the local eye department if necessary.
Please contact us as soon as possible for advice and an appointment by calling 01242 222802.
GLAUCOMA MONITORING
We are accredited to perform glaucoma enhanced case finding and repeat readings as part of the Gloucestershire glaucoma referral refinement pathway.
This means that if we suspect you may be developing early signs of glaucoma we can carry out the additional investigations required to ascertain whether you need to be seen by a Glaucoma Specialist.
Some of our glaucoma specialist Optometrists are also part of the shared care scheme with the hospital eye department where some patients with ocular hypertension can be reviewed here rather than in the hospital eye service.
